Bagging our First Live Xmas Tree!
Yesterday we ventured out the valley to Maple Ridge in search of our first live Xmas tree. After some searching on the net, Kerri found the Allouette Xmas Tree Farm, which only took approx 30 minutes to get to. Nice farm, but fairly small, with pretty slim pickings in the tree department (lots of nice small trees, but not much over the 6ft height range...). That being said, they did have all of the other necessary ingredients, including a small petting zoo, wagon rides, free hot dogs and cider, and of course, Santa's workshop. Despite the slim pickings and paying $62.50 to cut down our own tree (vs. $25 at Ikea for a skookum tree & $25 gift certificate...), it was a great experience. Kallum and Sadie loved it!

Halloween 2008
We decided to play host for halloween this year, inviting Dave, Melissa & James, and Steve, Jodie, & Brendan to bring over their little ones for dinner and a tour of our neighborhood. It was cold and wet evening, but we managed to get out for a good hour when the rain broke. Kallum (a.k.a. Scooby Doo) has fully grasped the concept of Halloween now, so was keen to get some loot. The night didn't disappoint. Sadie looked adorable in her little Bunny outfit. James looked very cool as Spiderman, and Brendan got his first real Halloween experience in Dinosaur attire.
Pumpkin Patch 2008
Its been some time since we had time to update our blog, so the next few posts will be going back in time a bit. Below are a series of shots from our family trip to the pumpkin patch this year--an annual event--along with the Windsors, Wilsons, and Luis. Of course, it was Sadie's first trip to the patch, so she donned the traditional Pumpkin suit. All in all, it was a great day. Kallum even got to ride a pony!

Made in the Shade
One of the tricks of this vacation was to keep little miss Sadie in the shade as she is too young for sunscreen! She was such a little trooper on this trip, and actually adjusted to the time change and the hectic pace quite well. She slept better in Maui then she does at home, and sadly no, this trend did not continue upon our return to Vancouver!
The Sugar Cane Express
Probably the highlight of the trip for Kallum was the Sugar Cane Express. A historic steam train that runs from Lahaina to Kanapali. It was really quite something, just like his train table come to life. The train "chuffs" into the station and uncouples from the coaches, then turns around on a turn table to go the other way. Once turned around it buffers up to the coaches then all the passengers hop on board (have I been watching too much Thomas?). The ride itself is quite picturesque. The train actually stops to take on water from the water tower, which was also quite impressive. Kallum was speechless throughout this whole event, which is saying something. Another familly on the train gave us their monthly pass because they were leaving Maui, so Steve took Kallum for one last ride the day we left the Island. He has not stopped talking about his "two choo choo rides".
